Large neutral oak casks contribute subtle vanilla notes on the nose of this Chardonnay, but the fruit is the star, with aromatics of bruised apple, fresh pear, and lemon. There's a chalky, flinty minerality here as well, reminiscent of Petit Chablis, along with a hint of coconut.
Medium-bodied and fruit-forward, this Chardonnay combines weight and texture with good energy and refreshing balance. Flavours of melon, green apple, and pear resolve on the flinty finish with a vibrant, citrusy acidity.
This more fruit forward, acid driven style of Chardonnay pairs best with fish, quiche or creamy pasta dishes - the bright acidity with cut the richness of the sauce.
Aromas and Flavours
From Granny Smith to Red Delicious, apple makes for a delightfully crisp aroma.
A romantic picnic in the orchard, with your partner and their favourite white wine.
A sweet spice aroma that indicates oak-ageing - think vanilla bean frappuccino!
Common in cool climate white wines, this aroma can range from fresh citrus to lemon zest.
Remember playing with pebbles as a child and giving them a lick out of curiosity?
Handling and Serving
2022 - 2025
The Tramier family has deep roots in Burgundy, and their history and connection to the land allows them to produce some true gems at remarkable price points. As longtime fans of this historic Mercurey house, we jumped at the chance to feature not one, but two of their releases under their Roncier label. Made from fruit sourced from both their own and contract vineyards throughout the south of France, these wines represent exceptional value in a wine category that is being increasingly priced out of everyday enjoyment. While the family's roots stretch back to 1842, they've embraced modern innovations and a deeper understanding of advances in winemaking to bring their traditional know-how into the 21st century. Named "l’épine" (thorn, in English), this 100% Chardonnay captures the energetic, prickly acidity that is possible (but too often overlooked) in this classic French grape variety. Enjoy over the next 3 years at about 10 C.
