Profile

Description

If you've never had a white wine from the south of France, please allow us to introduce you to Les Romanes: a blend of sustainably-farmed Grenache Blanc and Roussanne from a Languedoc cooperative called Les Vignerons du Sommiérois. Summers are hot and dry in this part of France, and it's so well suited to producing red wines that the whites from this region are often overlooked. That's a mistake we're hoping to correct, and present Les Romanes as "Exhibit A" for why we should all be enjoying more white wines from the Languedoc! Grenache Blanc is a relative of the red grape Grenache (or Garnacha in its native Spain), and in the case of this wine, it's blended with Roussanne, one of the principle white grapes of southern France. This is a great alternative to an unoaked Chardonnay, as it's got some weight and texture on the palate, with enough fresh acidity to provides structure and balance. This ideal spring and early-summer white should be enjoyed at about 10 C over the next 2-3 years.

Pairing

This is quite a flexible wine, so enjoy on its own as an aperitif, pair with a spring salad, or match the weight and texture with lobster poached in butter and white wine.

Aromas and Flavours

Peach

Fuzzy peach candies, or real-life fuzzy peaches fresh from a fresh B.C fruit stand.

Apricot

Stone fruit aroma which might need a little bit of glass-swirling for you to perceive it.

Nectarine

A soft, fruity aroma with floral undertones. Similar to a peach or apricot, but honey-heavy!

Floral

You just received a bouquet from a secret admirer and the smell is intoxicating.

Lemon-lime

Common in cool climate white wines, this aroma can range from fresh citrus to lemon zest.
