Profile

Description

Bodegas Murviedro is a winery that falls under the Schenk family Estates. Begun in 1893 in Switzerland by Arnold Schenk who had a love of wine and the lands that farmed the grapes. With a strong dedication he soon transformed his firm into one of the largest wine companies in the world, having both holdings in vineyards and wineries alike. More than 125 years later, the firm is still family-owned and operated, maintaining the traditional values Arnold first founded the company on. Bodegas Schenk has holdings in Italy, France, Germany Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and of course, Spain, where a large majority of their holdings reside. In 1997 Schenk founded its Spanish headquarters in the heart of Requena, in the heart of Utiel-Requena, an area known for its excellent vineyards. In 2002 the company changed its name to Bodegas Murviedro, honouring its most emblematic brand of Valencia. Their vineyards are all farmed organically with a strong focus on biodynamics. They are champions of sustainable viticulture and oenology with every aspect of wine production focused on being as environmentally friendly as possible. They work with the Spanish Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge for its Registry of Carbon Footprint Offsetting and CO2 Removal. At Bodegas Murviedro respect for the land is critical, because, without it, you cannot achieve great wine. The vineyards for this wine are very close to the Mediterranean coast in the east part of the region and grow at an altitude of 250-1000 meters above sea level. The soil is chalk mixed with clay which helps to provide wines with great structure. A rich and intense, full-bodied wine with a dark violet-red core with light violet flecks. The aromatics center around red fruit, blackberry, and fresh red currants. Oily in texture with a dense mouthfeel and finishes with hints of sweet spice, dried charcuterie meats, peppers, and hints of smoke.

Pairing

Grilled burgers, eggplant parmigiana, roasted mushroom risotto, grilled blueberry and pork sausages, smoked gouda, and Stilton cheese.

Aromas and Flavours

Blackberry

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.

Raspberry

Tangy or sweet, juicy or tart: more sophisticated than a strawberry, but just as lush.

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Smoke

Reminds you of singing songs by the campfire on a beautiful summer evening.

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.
