Profile

Description

Shooting Star winery is located in Kelseyville in Lake County, California, founded by Jed Steele, a California winemaker icon.  With over five decades of experience in the industry, Jed earned his master's degree from UC Davis in 1974 and learned his craft further by working at such prestigious wineries such as Stony Hill and Edmeades.  He is considered and expert in northern California wines.  Jed started the winery in 1991 with the goal to produce wines that are great value and true to their terroir.  This wine is just another example of Jed's commitment to excellent value, old school California wines.  Lake County has some truly great terroir, red volcanic soils, plenty of sunshine, low fog and 1400+ ft in elevation and cool summer nights to help balance acidity in the wines that are produced here.  This Pinot Noir was aged for 9 months in French and Hungarian oak.  In 2020 Clay and Angie Shannon, owners of Shannon Ridge Family of Wines, purchased Shooting Star, and continue Jed’s commitment to craft winemaking. Bright and fresh with cool notes of dark cherry, cranberry, dried figs and cocoa.  Long and lean with a firm acidity that keeps the fruit fresh on the palate. The finish is elegant and is reminiscent of cinnamon buns and white pepper.

Pairing

White truffle mushroom pizza, roasted salmon with dijon lemon dressing, mint dressed lamb chops

Aromas and Flavours

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Cranberry

Sweet and tart, just like the cranberry sauce at your family's Thanksgiving table.

Mint

A touch of sweet and cooling herbal flavours, think gum, but without the intense menthol

Cinnamon

The scent of freshly baked cinnamon rolls, straight out of the oven - ooey gooey goodness!
