Profile

Description

Navarra might not be on your radar as a region for fantastic Spanish wines, but it should be! Long overlooked in favour of neighbouring Rioja, Navarra is beginning to attract long-deserved international attention for their balanced (and well-priced) wines. Terraplén's José Canto is a tireless advocate for the region's potential, especially with indigenous varieties that were historically given less attention than French grapes. We loved his wines so much that we are featuring both this Garnacha and his unoaked Viura. Arguably Spain's most important red grape after Tempranillo, Garnacha it makes elegant, medium-bodied reds in Navarra. This wine benefits from a bit of a chill, so pop it in the fridge for 15 minutes or so before enjoying in order to get it down to about 16 C. Serve over the next 3-4 years.

Pairing

Match this medium-bodied, energetic red with Korean-style grilled beef short ribs, pork dumplings, or roasted duck.

Aromas and Flavours

Pomegranate

The scent of pomegranate is subtle, but has a distinct sweet-tart and 'winey' flavour.

Raspberry

Tangy or sweet, juicy or tart: more sophisticated than a strawberry, but just as lush.

Plum

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness'.

Bramble

Juicy dark berries picked straight from the bush, with a subtle hint of leaf and earthiness.

Floral

You just received a bouquet from a secret admirer and the smell is intoxicating.
