Profile

Description

Navarra might not be on your radar as a region for fantastic Spanish wines, but it should be! Long overlooked in favour of neighbouring Rioja, Navarra is beginning to attract long-deserved international attention for their balanced (and well-priced) wines. Terraplén's José Canto is a tireless advocate for the region's potential, especially with indigenous varieties that were historically given less attention than French grapes. We loved his wines so much that we are featuring both this Viura and his Garnacha. Viura (also known as Macabeo) is the principal grape used to make white Rioja, so it's no surprise that it grows equally well in neighbouring Navarra. Here, rather than oak-aged expressions common elsewhere, Viura is given the stainless-steel treatment to preserve its natural acidity and vibrant fruit flavours. Enjoy at about 8 C over the next two years.

Pairing

Tropical fruit notes and a lighter body make this unoaked white pair perfectly with chicken, grilled mahi mahi or samosas.

Aromas and Flavours

Lemon-lime

Common in cool climate white wines, this aroma can range from fresh citrus to lemon zest.

Grapefruit

As refreshing as aromas come, the smell of grapefruit is purely invigorating.

Apple

From Granny Smith to Red Delicious, apple makes for a delightfully crisp aroma.

Papaya

A musky aroma, sometimes described as 'a little offensive'. Recognize it from multivitamin juice?

Stone

Remember playing with pebbles as a child and giving them a lick out of curiosity?
