Profile

Description

The Drover Shiraz is produced by Dee Vine Estate, a winery that was established by two brothers, Michele and Domenico Scarfone in 1957. The brothers established themselves in Nericon within the Riverina area of Australia. They brought with them the vision to produce traditional Italian table wine for the Australian wine drinker. Three generations later, their family members have grown the brother's vision for the winery by expanding their vineyard sites, and keeping it family-owned. The vineyards are located in Riverina, which lies southwest of New South Wales. The area is known for its hot climate and is predominantly made up of low-lying floodplains. Irrigation is supplied by the Murrumbidgee River. Riverina is the second-largest wine-producing region of Australia and is famous for its botrytis-affected wines. The region is one of Australia's oldest and largest wine regions, tracing its roots back to 1836 when German and French settlers began planting grapes. Dee Vine Estate is considered to be one of the best wineries in the region. The philosophy at this winery is simple: continue to develop a sustainable plan, reduce energy use, and use all things recycled to impart less of an impact on the environment. The winemakers believe that everyone who enjoys drinking wine should have access to a quality wine that is pleasurable to drink. To maintain this, they place a concerted effort in the production of all of their wines to keep them affordable and consistent. Dee Vine produces six different wine tiers. The Drover is bright crimson with hints of brick in the core. Ripe black fruit, with notes of blackberry jam, fruit cake, and sweet tobacco. There are hints of mint and Camphor that glide over the palate and complement the fruit.

Pairing

Pepper-encrusted lamb rack with dijon and creamy blue cheeses pair nicely, a charcuterie platter, or light curry dishes.

Aromas and Flavours

Blackberry

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.

Mint

A touch of sweet and cooling herbal flavours, think gum, but without the intense menthol

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Tobacco

The smell of a freshly rolled cigar, slightly sweet, and earthy - just like Grandpa's hugs.

Jam

Spreading grandma's homemade jam on your morning toast (yes, the bread was homemade too).
