Profile

Description

The Cantina di Solopaca is one of the oldest agricultural cooperatives in Campania, Italy. It’s one of the star producers; a massive 120,000 hectolitres of wine are bottled yearly. The vineyards are located within 16 municipalities and span over 1300 hectares. The DOC here is for Solopaca, in Sannio, which was the first to be awarded the appellation status in 1974. The DOC is for the Falanghina, Aglianico, Fiano, and Greco produced here. In recent years, the resurgence of traditional varieties like Coda di Volpe and Barbera have emerged with success. This is a region that is historically famous for producing wines of powerful intensity; wines that Napoleon himself drank and were the wines of choice for the King of Naples, Gioacchino Murat. The cultivated grapes are harvested using traditional systems and methods. In the cellar where they are vinified, the winemaking equipment is all cutting-edge, very modern in its techniques for producing all types of wines: white, red, sparkling, and semi-sparkling. The Cantina di Solopaca today offers a vast assortment of wines, divided into product lines, distributed not only in Italy but also abroad. These wines combine the most ancient traditions with the most modern techniques. This wine is a charming rendition of what could be deemed as a field blend. Carefully selected, the grapes play harmonious bright red fruit flavours on the palate balanced by an earthy acidity and lean dark blue fruits.
