Description
Grape growing was part of the Pfeiffer family's way of life for four generations, beginning with Albert Heinrich Pfeiffer, who owned a vineyard in the Riverland region of South Australia. His son, Hubert, worked the vineyards with his dad, which they sold to local producers. Later on, Hubert moved his family to a vineyard in Loxton, and worked the new vineyard land with his son, Martin, teaching him and training him like his father before him. Martin purchased the Heysen Estate while he was working for Penfold’s and propagated the land with cuttings from Penfold’s. The cuttings came from Penfold’s historic Grange vineyard. The fruit for this wine has been sourced mainly from three local Barossa growers, while the remaining fruit was grown on their estate. Whistler Wines has been practicing organic viticulture since 2013 and has been practicing biodynamics since July 2017. All three varieties were destemmed in the vineyard, and whole berry, natural fermentation occurred. The wines weren't blended until prior to bottling. No fining was used, so this wine is vegan-friendly. Blue fruit is very predominant, and the Grenache gives plenty of juicy red fruit to keep the palate fresh. Mataro gives the wine structure and earthy complexity.
